“The photographer must have and keep in him something of the receptiveness of the child who looks at the world for the first time, or of the traveller who enters a strange country.”

–Bill Brandt.

Photographer Anne Zed feels at home when travelling. In her photography, she combines her interest towards places and people with knowledge and experience gained from travelling in nearly 60 countries.

Her images capture a dialogue between place, people and work in both near and remote cultures. The photographs are impressions of how people live and use their creativity to make what is needed with what is available in their environment.

Her previous work as a geography researcher and teacher is reflected in her images of landscapes, stones and minerals. Instead of a scientific approach of a geographer, she now approaches land from a more sensitive perspective. Her images are visual stories that talk to the heart through emotional and visual observations of cultures.

Anne Zed approaches realities of other people with compassion and empathy. She explores diversity of human life through her images, and observes her subjects through their customs, traditions, crafts and making. As such, her images are insights to gestures of daily life. They are aesthetic experiences that trigger emotion and connect the viewer with the subject.

Anne Zed lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. She works on travel photography, portraits, interior and product photography, and film. Zed is specialized in photographing people and crafts and their relation to a place.
